  • Intern: System Test

The System Test intern is responsible for supporting the design, assembly and execution of a variety of system tests that will be used in product development. The Acoustiic device is a high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) transducer, and example test fixtures that will be developed and run include a) a thermal heat transfer test fixture to test the system’s cooling capabilities, b) electrical test fixtures to test prototype PCBA’s that provide signal and power interfaces to the HIFU. This intern will report to the VP of Systems Engineering and will also work closely with experienced electronic, acoustic and mechanical engineers at Acoustiic. While all engineering students are encouraged to apply, this role requires a number of key skills listed below. We would expect that an Electrical Engineering student or Systems Engineering student with electrical design and instrumentation experience would be most successful in this role.

This is a hands-on position where on-the-job training will be provided as necessary.

    Key Duties Include:

Schematic capture for simple PCBA board designs

Assembly of prototype units for testing

Fabrication and assembly of test fixtures

Run hardware tests and report results for the purposes of design iteration

    Key Skills Include:

    A desire to build things

PCB schematic capture and layout using Altium

    Labview

    Soldering and electronics assembly

Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes and power supplies

  • Intern: Acoustic Test

The Acoustic Test intern is responsible for setting up and configuring an acoustic test tank and associated instrumentation.  This intern will report to the VP of Transducers and will also receive direction and support from other Principal Engineers.  The acoustic test tank includes a robotic arm that holds and precisely positions the test object (ultrasound transducer), along with specialized sensors that measure the output of the transducer.  The associated instrumentation and controls are managed through Labview, while Matlab is used for data processing and analysis.   While all engineering students are encouraged to apply, this role requires key skills listed below, and we would expect that an Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering student with experience with instrumentation, Labview and Matlab would be most successful in this role.

    Key Duties Include:

Set up the acoustic test tank – connect all controls (robot) and sensors (specialized acoustic sensors)
Configure test data acquisition and processing. Configure system to perform a set of standard tests and data acquisition
Run acoustic tests on prototype devices and report on resulting data.

    Key Skills Include:

    Labview instrumentation setup and programming
Matlab skills for basic signal processing (time and frequency domains) and presentation of summary graphs for test reports with test limits

  • Intern: GUI Interface

The GUI Interface intern is responsible for designing and implementing a GUI interface to our ultrasound transducer system. The ultrasound transducer system is designed to transmit acoustic energy based on targeting information from the control interface. The GUI will not be a product/clinical interface, rather a development interface for internal use by engineers/researchers. This intern will report to the VP of Transducers and will also get direction and support from other Principal Engineers. While all engineering students are encouraged to apply, this role requires key skills listed below and we would expect that an Electrical or Computer Science student with experience implementing a Windows-based UI in C++, C# and/or Python would be most successful in this role.
